Your next move depends on whether you're going to use pulseaudio or not. Have you tried re-installing the alsa sound card driver from the package manager not source? i'm on slackware64 13.0 vanilla edition. 1 members found this post helpful. So we need a different approach. No start up music.
From a terminal window please run: apport-collect 1060500 and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'. Also have you checked that your not trying to run the sound through another device that is listed under the sound properties. To compile this driver as a module, choose M here: the module will be called snd-hda-intel. vik View Public Profile View LQ Blog View Review Entries View HCL Entries Find More Posts by vik View Blog 03-08-2010, 11:03 AM #7 blacksky2 Member Registered: Oct 2008
Conveniently, Takashi has written an emulator called hda-emu to test the codec driver code, and I've improved that emulator with some scripting, so that hda-emu effectively becomes an automated test suite. I spent the better part of a week trying to figure this out under Fedora. Patches are upstreamed to the Linux kernel as soon as I get them working and accepted. In addition, new codec hardware is more likely to "just work", or at least partially work, without explicit support in the kernel.
Exactly same sound card on my laptop (HP Pavillion dv7) and it worked out of the box on Slackware64 13.0 and now on Gentoo. This is not the first time I am having problems with this, I used Puppy and Porteus before, but I always found a way to fix it, but now I googled Hardware PCI Numeric ID (from LKDDb) and names (from pci.ids) of recognized devices: vendor: 1002 ("Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]"), class: 04 ("Multimedia controller"), subclass: 03 ("Audio device"), prog-if: 00 vendor: I think this means that it's a user setting that's screwed up.

And finally, when it comes to Upstart, that's the init system that has been used by Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE, and many others. Good luck. I had the same problem on my squeeze and same problem on wheezy. doomey View Public Profile View LQ Blog View Review Entries View HCL Entries Find More Posts by doomey 03-05-2010, 11:31 AM #3 blacksky2 Member Registered: Oct 2008 Location: bogota
Nforce 4 and MCP51 to be exact. I removed the package and after rebooting again everything worked as before. 23.01.13 Jörn wrote, I tried it again and now it works. The codecs come from 10-12 different vendors, and within the same vendor, it is more likely that the codec layout is somewhat like other codecs from the same vendor. pulse sections fixed my html5 audio problem in firefox & seamonkey browsers.

Actually, perhaps you should just make use of 'alsa-info' ? I haven't found the right solution yet for this, but there are a few work arounds that might fit. The only card I have is "Intel" (output from "asoundconf list").
